This
beautiful Caribbean island is world famous for its
dazzling white sandy beaches, crystal clear waters
and coral reefs. |

Cozumel
is Mexico's largest island, just 12 miles off the
Yucatan Peninsula. There are plenty of watersports
such as diving, deep-sea fishing, kayaking, kite
surfing, deep sea or fly fishing, sailing and much
more. A sleepy little fishing community until 1961,
when Jacques Cousteau declared it one of the most
beautiful scuba diving areas of the world, the island’s
underwater wildlife is amazing. Due to the clarity
of the water (100 - 200 feet visibility), you don’t
have to be a diver to enjoy it. Simply grab a snorkel
and jump in! You can also explore the Chankanaab
National Park and the Punta Sur Ecological Reserve,
which includes the Colombia Lagoon, a shelter for
many endemic species, as well as endangered species
such as marine turtles and their nesting areas.
The
climate is subtropical and the native people are
of Mayan descent. The legacy of their culture survives
in the vestiges of their huge cities, with the interesting
site of San Gervacio here on the island. Other fascinating
sites are Chichen Itza, with its massive pyramids,
Tulum, the only Mayan city built overlooking the
sea, and Tikal in its jungle settings. Each is an
easy one day excursion from Cozumel. And when each
wonderful day comes to an end, you can watch the
breathtaking sunset and enjoy the fabulous nightlife.
