Although only
37 square kilometres, Dutch Sint Maarten boasts no
less than 36 beautiful white sand beaches, giving you
an endless choice, with the clear waters often giving
snorkelers and divers visibility of up to 200 feet.
In fact, water activities are the big attraction on
this peaceful getaway island, with swimming, fishing
and sailing from one beach to the next offering one
long round of pleasure!
Within
a short drive, there is plenty of nightlife, including
a choice of casinos. The island has a varied and interesting
history, with a number of 17th and 18th
century forts from the days when Dutch, French, Spanish
and British troops pushed each other from island to
island. There’s also the delicious mixture of
Dutch and French cuisine to enjoy, with a choice of
over 200 restaurants.
The duty free shopping, including nearby Philipsburg, offers some
terrific deals on jewellery, linens and objets d’art. Be
sure to take an evening walk on the beach to see the fabulous sunsets
and unbelievably starry skies. Although it is comparatively small,
a car is highly recommended to make the most of a visit to this
resort.
