Frequently
Asked Questions
Is holiday ownership a new concept?
No. It started in 1966 in France, when
a property developer had problems selling some luxury holiday homes
for £36,000 each - a lot of money in those days! One evening,
when his wife asked for a piece of gateau at a restaurant, it occurred
to him that you do not have to purchase the whole cake to have
the piece you want. French people take their holidays a month at
a time, and so he sold 12 people equal shares in each holiday villa
for £3,000, which suddenly became very affordable. The owners
got together, formed a committee and paid equal shares of the maintenance
costs and thus timeshare was born!
The concept soon became established as timeshare in France and was taken up by
the USA on the same basis, but with holidays being sold in weeks. The first timeshare
resort to open in the UK was Loch Rannoch Highland Club in Scotland, in 1976.
Currently over 12 million people around the world own either timeshare or holiday
ownership and the number is increasing each year.
How much do I pay?
Three factors govern the cost:
a) the number of weeks you need
b) the season you choose your week(s)
c) the size of the accommodation
Whatever your choice, you make a once-only purchase.
What are the extra costs in the long term?
To maintain all the resorts within the Seasons portfolio to the highest standards
of comfort and safety, an annual management fee is levied, which is controlled
by the retail price index.
What does the management fee include?
Rates, cleaning, refuse collection, landscaping of grounds, water, furniture
replacement, upkeep of complex roads/paths, painting and decoration, pool cleaning,
insurance, equipment, maintenance
of sports areas and changes of linen and towels.
How is my purchase protected?
Through:
1) the use of the trustee system, with Hutchinson & Co. Trust Company Ltd.
2) The Organisation for Timeshare in Europe Code of Ethics
3) the British Timeshare Act and subsequent amendments
4) a complete homeowners insurance policy on your unit and the policy covering
the whole of each resort
5) Interval International quality controls
