Acapulco
remains Mexico’s most popular Pacific Ocean
playground, conjuring up images of days on the beach
soaking up the sun, and nights of dining, dancing
and revelry. |
|
| |
Behind
the town rise the Sierra Madre Mountains, a photographer’s
paradise, commanding breathtaking views of Acapulco
Bay. In old Acapulco town, you can experience all
the authentic atmosphere and excitement of tropical
harbours everywhere, while the zocalo (main square)
is a pretty, tree shaded plaza always full of activity.
The historic San Diego Fort is a classic five point
fortress surrounded by a moat and housing an interesting
museum.
Caleta and Caletilla Beaches are two picturesque coves in the old
residential heart of Acapulco, which boast many palatial homes. Be
sure to watch the famous La Quebrada cliff divers, who leap from
cliffs 136 feet above the Pacific Ocean and land in an 11 foot deep
inlet. The 52 acre Papagayo Park is one of the best parks in Mexico
for family fun, and the Costera is an attractive boulevard where
countless restaurants and bars keep going 24 hours a day.
But if you simply want to get away from the city’s bustle,
visit the Pie de la Cuesta, an open stretch of beach 6 miles west
of the city, with its charming palm lined beach and spectacular sunsets.
Here you’ll find the Coyuca Lagoon, protected from the ocean
by a long sandbar.
